Charlotte Joko Beck

Charlotte Joko Beck (1917-2011) was a renowned and revered American teacher celebrated for her practical approach to Zen. She embarked on her spiritual journey in her 40s, first studying under Soen Nakagawa Roti and then Hakuun Yasutani Roshi. She then trained under Hakuyu Taizan Maezumi Roshi, from whom she received Dharma transmission. Beck is the founder of the Zen Center of San Diego and the author of two seminal works, Everyday Zen: Love and Work and Nothing Special: Living Zen, which have profoundly influenced contemporary practice. Her most recent work, compiled posthumously, is Ordinary Wonder.
